Bhavigi Bhadreshwara Swamy Temple, popularly known as Bhadrappa Temple, is one of the most spiritually revered Shiva temples in western Telangana. Located at the busy main chowrasta of Tandur town in Vikarabad district, this sacred temple is deeply associated with faith, miracles, and centuries-old Veerashaiva traditions. The temple attracts thousands of devotees from Telangana, Karnataka, and Maharashtra who visit seeking the blessings of Bhadrappa Swamy, believed to be a divine form of Veerabhadra Swamy. The vibrant Rathotsavam, unique local traditions, and strong devotional atmosphere make this temple an important spiritual landmark of the region.

The present temple structure was constructed in 1940 following the Veerashaiva Agama tradition. However, worship connected with Bhadrappa Swamy is believed to be much older and has continued for several generations. Over time, the temple gradually became a major spiritual center in the Tandur region.

The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva, worshipped as Sri Bhavigi Bhadreshwara Swamy, affectionately called Bhadrappa Swamy by devotees. He is believed to be a divine form of Veerabhadra Swamy. Devotees worship the deity seeking blessings for health, prosperity, marriage, family welfare, and fulfillment of wishes.

The temple is built in traditional Veerashaiva style with a sanctum, mandapam, dhwajasthambam, and a spacious courtyard for devotees. Though the present structure is comparatively modern, it maintains a traditional Shaiva temple appearance. During festivals, the temple is beautifully decorated with flowers, lights, and colorful decorations. The huge wooden chariot used during the annual Rathotsavam is one of the major attractions of the temple.

According to local tradition, Bhadrappa Swamy was associated with Bhavigi village in Bidar district of Karnataka nearly 200 years ago. The spiritual traditions connected with him later spread to Tandur through devotees. The present temple structure was eventually established in Tandur and developed into an important center of Shaiva worship, attracting devotees from different regions.

The Sthalapurana of the temple is deeply connected with Bhadrappa Swamy, who is worshipped as a divine form of Veerabhadra Swamy. Devotees believe he possessed great spiritual powers and performed miracles for the welfare of people.

One popular legend states that a devotee named Patel Basanna from Tandur regularly visited Bhavigi village during temple festivals. During one such visit, Bhadrappa Swamy reportedly appeared in his dream and instructed him to take the sacred padukas to Tandur and establish worship there. After the padukas were brought to Tandur, devotees began experiencing blessings and fulfillment of prayers, which gradually increased the temple’s fame.

Another unique belief connected with the temple is seen during the Rathotsavam festival, where devotees throw bananas toward the temple chariot, believing that Bhadrappa Swamy will bless them and fulfill their wishes. This tradition continues even today and attracts thousands of devotees every year.

The most important festival celebrated in the temple is the Chaitra Masam Brahmotsavam and Rathotsavam held during March–April according to the Telugu calendar. The grand temple chariot procession attracts thousands of devotees from Telangana, Karnataka, and nearby regions.

Other important festivals celebrated at the temple include Maha Shivaratri, Karthika Masam, Magha Masam, Navaratri, Masa Shivaratri, Pradosha Pooja, and Shravana Masam celebrations. Special pujas, abhishekams, devotional programs, and spiritual gatherings are conducted during these occasions.
