Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday distributed 8,912 Township and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TIDCO) houses to worth Rs 800 crore to the eligible beneficiaries at Mallayapalem near Gudivada in Krishna district.
Measuring 300 square feet, each house has been distributed to the eligible beneficiary at just Re 1 with a total of 257 acres land in the area covered under the government scheme ‘Jagananna Layout’. The sanctioned land also houses 7,728 plots specifically for women-led households where 4,500 additional houses are being constructed.
”We are doing this great programme to make women as rights holders and change the face of their histories. Today, we are not building houses but villages,” Reddy said in a video link shared by the state government.
According to the Chief Minister, the keys to the newly built houses being given away to beneficiaries fulfils a promise he had made before coming to power during his padayatra in Gudivada earlier.
Including the 7,728 plots given to homeless women and the 8,912 houses, Reddy said nearly 16,240 families will be living in this ‘Jagananna Layout’.
Taking an average of least three persons per family, the Chief Minister extrapolated that the 16,240 families would accommodate around 40,000 people in the newly inaugurated housing colony.
