Sri Vijaya Puram: The Andaman and Nicobar administration will attempt two Guinness World Records this weekend as part of a push to promote the islands as a global diving destination, with Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi participating in both events, officials said on Friday.
The record attempts, ‘Largest Flag Unfurled Underwater’ and ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater’, are scheduled for May 2 and May 3, respectively, at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), they said.
Joshi, who also serves as the vice chairman of the Islands Development Agency, will take part in the underwater activities, they added.
Set for May 2 and 3 at Swaraj Dweep, the record attempts include the ‘Largest Flag Unfurled Underwater’ and the ‘Tallest Human Stack Underwater.’ Joshi, who is also the vice chairman of the Islands Development Agency, will be directly involved in the activities. The flag unfurling will occur near Radha Nagar Beach, featuring a substantial 60-metre by 40-metre tricolour beneath the sea.
The second event aims to create a human stack at a minimum height of 10 meters, near the Swaraj Dweep jetty lighthouse. The initiative, coordinated with multiple departments, involves skilled divers and technical experts to ensure safety and compliance with Guinness World Records standards. The events are expected to draw international attention and elevate the islands as a hub for scuba diving and eco-tourism.
