TCA Urges BCCI to Restrain HCA Over Proposed T20 League

Guruva Reddy-TCA

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has submitted an urgent representation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), seeking immediate restraint against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) over its proposed “Telangana Premier League / Telangana T20 League (TGPL/TGT20).”

In an official press statement, TCA General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy alleged that the HCA announced the league without disclosing mandatory prior written approvals from the BCCI and without lawful authorization of the proposed TGT20 Governing Council by the HCA General Body, as required under the BCCI Constitution and Rule 28. The association termed the move “procedurally illegal” and an attempt to create “irreversible facts” during the pendency of W.P. No. 3678/2023 before the Bombay High Court.

Reddy further stated that if the tournament has BCCI approval, inclusion of TCA and Telangana district cricketers would be mandatory in light of the ongoing sub judice proceedings and the BCCI order dated July 11, 2021. He asserted that the HCA cannot proceed unilaterally without explicit directions from either the BCCI or the court.

He also warned that if the league does not have BCCI approval, participation by players, officials, and other stakeholders could attract disciplinary action under Rules 28, 30, 31, and 38, potentially impacting their careers. The TCA maintained that responsibility for any such consequences would rest with the HCA, its proposed Governing Council, and its office bearers.

Reiterating its challenge to the legality of the proposed league, the TCA urged the BCCI to intervene immediately to safeguard the interests of Telangana cricket and district players.
