International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah was present in Nisshin on Saturday (October 3) to watch the gold medal match of the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 between India and Pakistan. After India’s win over the Sahibzada Farhan-led side, he met with the Indian players and congratulated them on winning the gold medal.
In a video going viral on the internet, Shah can be seen shaking hands with India captain Shreyas Iyer and spinner Ravi Bishnoi before Vaibhav Sooryavanshi comes up and touches his feet after shaking hands with him.
The clip of Sooryavanshi’s gesture is now going viral on the internet.
In the final of the Asian Games 2026, Vaibhav opened the innings for the defending champions and hammered two sixes to score 15 runs from nine balls.
He was, however, sent back to the pavilion by Saim Ayub in the third over of India’s innings.
After Sooryavanshi’s wicket, Abhishek Sharma took charge and top-scored for India with a knock of 61 runs off 28 balls. He hammered three fours and seven sixes. In the final overs of India’s innings, Tilak Varma took the Pakistan attack to the cleaners and remained unbeaten on 51 runs off just 22 balls.
The fifties by Abhishek and Tilak helped India post a big total of 211/6 in 20 overs. In reply to the 212-run target, Pakistan could only manage 192/6 in 20 overs. For them, middle-order batter Hasan Nawaz played a knock of 96 runs, but it wasn’t enough to help Pakistan get the better of India.
The win over Pakistan on Saturday helped India successfully defend their Asian Games gold medal. The Men in Blue had also won the gold medal in the men’s cricket competition at the 2022 edition of the Asian Games under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
