Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi commissioned three indigenously built aval platforms into the Indian Navy at a ceremony here today.
The triple induction features advanced warships and survey vessels built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers with over 75% indigenous content.
The commissioned vessels are tailored for diverse maritime operations:
- INS Dunagiri: A Project 17A stealth guided-missile frigate equipped with heavyweight armament, including BrahMos surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missiles.
- INS Sanshodhak: A Survey Vessel (Large) designed for deep-water and coastal hydrographic mapping, carrying autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) to collect oceanographic data.
- INS Agray: An Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) built to detect, track, and neutralize underwater threats using lightweight torpedoes and advanced sonars.
This simultaneous induction is a key milestone in India’s push for defense self-reliance, with significant supply chain contributions coming from over 200 MSMEs.
Speaking on the occasion, Modi said West Bengal will soon become a major economic growth engine with massive industrial and infrastructure push.
