Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) has opposed the reported appointment of Bharani Kumar as CEO (Operations) of the TG20 League, questioning the selection process and the decision to appoint a person from outside Telangana for a key administrative role.
In a statement issued on Sunday, TCA General Secretary Dharam Guruva Reddy criticised the TG20 Governing Council and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), alleging that the appointment overlooked qualified cricket administrators available within Telangana.
Reddy said Telangana has produced several international cricketers, coaches and administrators over the years and argued that local talent should have been given preference for such an important position. He claimed the decision had disappointed many stakeholders in the state’s cricketing fraternity.
The TCA also raised concerns over transparency in the appointment process and called for clarity on issues related to potential conflicts of interest. According to the association, Bharani Kumar had earlier served as CEO of the Vizag Warriors franchise in the Andhra Premier League (APL).
Reddy said the issue would be highlighted during the TCA’s proposed dharna against the TG20 League and brought to the attention of former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya and other public representatives expected to attend the protest.
Reiterating the association’s long-standing demand for greater opportunities for cricketers and administrators from Telangana districts, the TCA said it would continue its efforts to promote cricket across the state and pursue affiliation with the BCCI through legal channels.
