Group Capt GJ Rao’s Film on Suicide Prevention Bags 3 Awards

Hyderabad:  A feature film by Kargil war veteran and anti-suicide crusader Group Captain G.J. Rao has bagged three top honours at the 17th International Film Festival of Hyderabad Charminar (IFFHC) 2025.

Based on extensive research and investigation by Group Captain Rao, the film won awards for Best Social Film, Best Concept Film, and Best Director.

While Group Captain Rao received the first two awards for his powerful concept and message, the Best Director award went to renowned filmmaker Om Sai Prakash, who directed the film.

“I’m thrilled to receive this recognition for a cause so close to my heart,” said Mr Rao. “I hope this brings much-needed attention to suicide prevention.” He also thanked Om Sai Prakash—who was the chief guest at the award ceremony held at Prasad Film Lab last night—for adapting his book into a film. The book was earlier released by then Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on September 3, 2015.

Rao also expressed gratitude to the IFFHC jury and organisers for the recognition.

The film festival was organised in collaboration with the Universal Filmmakers Council and Genesis Ultima, Dubai.

Though September 10 is yet to release in theatres, it has already made a mark on the international stage.
