Assamese Poet Nilim Kumar to Receive Dr. C. Narayana Reddy’s ‘Viswambhara’ Award

Hyderabad: Renowned Assamese poet Nilim Kumar has been selected for the prestigious ‘Viswambhara’ National Award for 2024, instituted by the Suseela Narayana Reddy Trust in memory of legendary poet and Jnanpith awardee Dr. C. Narayana Reddy.

The award, which carries a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a memento, and a citation, will be conferred during the 94th birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. Reddy at Ravindra Bharathi on July 29, the Trust announced in a press release on Sunday.

Trust Chairperson Ganga and General Secretary Dr. J. Chennaiah said Nilim Kumar was chosen for his outstanding contribution to Indian poetry, with 24 published volumes and several national honours, including the Kusumagraj and Udayabharati awards. His works have been translated into multiple Indian and foreign languages and feature in university syllabi across the country.

The Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, has been invited to attend the event as the chief guest.
