New Delhi: The government has notified a cashless treatment scheme for road accident victims nationwide, under which they will be entitled to a maximum amount of Rs 1.5 lakh per accident per person.
According to a gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the scheme has come into force with effect from May 5, 2025.
“Any person being a victim of a road accident arising out of the use of a motor vehicle, occurring on any road, shall be entitled to cashless treatment by the provisions of this scheme,” the notification said.
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had in January announced that the government would come up with a modified scheme for road accident victims under which they will be entitled to a cashless treatment of a maximum amount of ₹1.5 lakh per accident per person.
“The broad contours of the pilot programme are — victims entitled to cashless treatment up to a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh per accident per person for a maximum period of 7 days from the date of the accident,” Gadkari had said while addressing a press conference.
The National Health Authority (NHA) would coordinate with the police, hospitals, and the State Health Agency, among others, in order to implement the programme.
