Telangana BJP Slams Confidence Motion, Kharge’s Remarks

Hyderabad: Telangana BJP spokesperson N.V. Subash on Thursday strongly criticized the Opposition’s move to introduce a confidence motion against Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Subash termed the move “unfortunate” and said it highlights the extent to which political discourse has eroded, undermining constitutional bodies like Parliament.

Subash labeled the motion not only reprehensible but also condemnable, especially given the Opposition’s awareness that it is likely to be defeated if put to a vote. The reasons cited, including Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s unwarranted and scathing remarks about the Chairman, were also denounced as baseless and unacceptable.

Kharge’s accusations of blatant bias and partisanship lack substance. His labeling of Dhankhar as a “government spokesperson” and his claims that Dhankhar’s actions are motivated by ambitions for a “next promotion” are personal attacks rooted in conjecture rather than fact.

Kharge’s description of Dhankhar as the “biggest disruptor” in the Rajya Sabha reflects poorly on the Opposition’s respect for parliamentary norms. Similarly, his allegations regarding Dhankhar’s association with the RSS are baseless. Subash pointed out that there is nothing objectionable about associating with the RSS, a lawful organization not banned by any government.

Subash also criticized the Congress for appearing rattled when questions were raised about Sonia Gandhi’s alleged connections with George Soros, a U.S. billionaire whose NGOs have been accused of destabilizing democracies worldwide. He called Kharge’s attempts to draw parallels between Dhankhar’s RSS association and Gandhi’s alleged ties to Soros a disingenuous distraction, particularly inappropriate during the historic 75th anniversary of the Rajya Sabha’s adoption.

The BJP spokesperson further slammed the I.N.D.I.A bloc for amplifying Kharge’s baseless accusations, saying it undermines parliamentary decorum and credibility. Kharge’s contradictory stance—expressing regret over the confidence motion while simultaneously accusing Dhankhar of bias—was labeled as perplexing and hypocritical.

Subash emphasized that Dhankhar has acted fairly and impartially, allowing Opposition members sufficient time to express their views and intervening only when parliamentary rules were violated. He concluded by stating that Kharge’s remarks lack merit and serve only to tarnish the dignity of parliamentary discourse.
