Guwahati:  A day before the INDIA bloc’s proposed rally against SIR and CEC Gyanesh Kumar at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday taunted the Congress, questioning its “fear-measuring machine”.

“Whenever Congress runs out of logic and arguments, they come up with their favourite tweet — ‘Yeh Darr Gaye’ (He is scared),” Sarma said in a post on X.

Addressing his “dear friends” in the Congress, the chief minister asked what equipment they used to measure fear.

Sarma posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Whenever Congress runs out of logic and arguments, they come up with their favourite tweet — ‘They are scared!'”

Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Chief Minister questioned what specific equipment the party uses to gauge fear. He asked, “Which equipment do you use to measure fear? Is it the famous ‘potato-to-gold’ machine or have you invented something new?”

The taunt comes amid escalating political friction over the INDIA bloc’s massive November 1 demonstration in New Delhi. Led by Rahul Gandhi and high-profile opposition leaders like Mamata Banerjee, the alliance is marching from Minto Road to Ramlila Maidan. The protest is framed as a “public impeachment” of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of “vote chori” (vote theft) and voter deletions linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Sarma and other BJP leaders have consistently dismissed the opposition’s protests as a “spectacle” born out of frustration over recent electoral defeats, defending the integrity of the Election Commission of India.
