New Delhi:  Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke was detained from his residence here on Friday while he was leaving to participate in the party’s proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest at Connaught Place, police sources said.

Earlier in the day, more than 20 Delhi Police personnel visited Dipke’s residence in Jhandewalan and served him a notice directing him to refrain from any action that could prejudice the rights of citizens, traders, commuters, patients and others.

The police action comes amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital ahead of the proposed protest.

Arguing that there was nothing wrong with citizens displaying the national flag in an independent country, Bharadwaj questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party’s objections to the campaign.

“What does the Bharatiya Janata Party want—should we be hoisting the flags of Pakistan, Bangladesh, or America instead?” he said, asking why the display of India’s flag should be a problem.

His remarks came amid heightened security in Connaught Place ahead of CJP’s planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest. Delhi Police has said prohibitory orders under Section 163 are in force in the area and that the New Delhi Municipal Council has not granted permission for the proposed march.
