New Delhi:  Asian Games gold medallist Aman Sherawat believes he can actually pull of something that no other Indian wrestler has ever achieved — winning a wrestling gold in the Olympics at Los Angeles in 2028.

“I am not thinking about just a medal anymore. My hope is only on gold. I believe that I will win gold for my country in LA Olympics. My bout in the Asian Games final was against the world champion. I defeated him. Now I have full hope that I can do it (get a gold in Olympics),” Aman told PTI in an exclusive interview here on Friday.

“I am getting so much love and blessings from the people of the country. So, I will definitely try my best to bring the gold. Everyone is telling me that in the Asian Games, we knew it was yours. But now we expect you to bring gold in the Olympics. We have full hope from you. That’s why you can do it,” he said.

Sehrawat’s declaration comes on the heels of a massive statement victory at the Asian Games. Following his historic bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics—where he became India’s youngest individual Olympic medalist—the wrestler endured a turbulent period. He battled a steep dip in motivation and a persistent stomach ailment that severely restricted his training and caused him to miss high-profile events. [1, 2, 3]

However, his performance in Nagoya marked a triumphant return to form:
He clinched the gold medal by defeating the reigning world champion, Han Chong Song of North Korea, in a hard-fought 11-7 decision.

His victory anchored India’s six-medal wrestling haul (2 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze), marking the nation’s best performance at the Asian Games since Jakarta 1962. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Rewriting History in Los Angeles

Backed by his legendary coach, Satpal Singh, Sehrawat notes that he has already put his previous accolades out of mind to keep his hunger alive. “People are now expecting gold from me. I have already forgotten my bronze medals; I can’t settle for that and say I have achieved enough. Now I am preparing for gold,” Sehrawat stated. Satpal Singh echoed this elite focus, emphasizing that everything moving forward is engineered toward achieving ultimate Olympic glory in 2028.
