New Delhi: Opposition INDIA bloc parties staged a walkout from the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday in the post-lunch sitting after Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge was not allowed to speak by the Chair, as the Upper House debated The Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026.
The Upper House, which has been witnessing repeated adjournments as Opposition parties have been raising demand for Home Minister Amit Shah to make a statement on the use of force, including the use of pellet guns, on protesting students last month, and the issue of alleged donation theft at the Ram temple, saw two adjournments in the pre-lunch sitting on Tuesday.
As the House met at 2 pm, the Tribunals Reforms Bill was taken up amid sloganeering by Opposition MPs.
The Chair refused permission for Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Nadimul Haque and other opposition members to raise unrelated public issues instead of focusing on the listed legislation.
The opposition wanted to discuss the alleged theft of Ram temple donations and the reported use of pellet guns against student protesters.
The Bankers’ Books Evidence Bill, 2026, which replaces the old 1891 law to accommodate digital banking records, was subsequently passed by a voice vote in their absence.
