Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was on Tuesday arrested for his alleged “double-meaning” remark alluding to popular actor Trisha and insulting her modesty, police said.
Udhayanidhi was arrested and taken to Thanjavur in a police van. The DMK leader was arrested for his alleged remark at a protest meeting held at the Cauvery delta town on Monday.
He has been booked by police under various sections of law, including the one relating to the use of obscene words and insulting the modesty of a woman.
Meanwhile, a petition seeking anticipatory bail has been filed before the Madras High Court. During the hearing in the afternoon, Justice G.K. Ilanthiraiyan directed the police to release Mr. Udhayanidhi today on station bail after questioning. He also directed the Leader of the Opposition, who has been taken to Thanjavur, to cooperate with the investigation and appear for inquiry as and when required.
