Glasgow: A restaurant in Glasgow has sparked controversy after star boxer Lovlina Borgohain alleged that napkins used by the establishment featured an incomplete map of India. The restaurant recently hosted members of the Indian contingent for a dinner following their successful campaign at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026.
Lovlina pointed out that the map on the napkins of the restaurant named Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry, did not include the North East region.
“The map on the napkins is missing our North East. Every part of India is important and should be represented,” Lovlina was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.
Lovlina was among India’s standout performers at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, winning a historic silver medal. The medal added another major international achievement to the Olympic medallist’s career and made her one of the leading faces of India’s boxing contingent at the Games.
Backing Lovlina’s objection, Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh said the depiction was also incomplete with regard to Kashmir and called on the restaurant to rectify the map at the earliest.
According to Singh, the map shown on the napkins does not accurately represent India’s territorial boundaries and should be corrected.
The restaurant is yet to respond to the controversy.
Indian boxers punched their way to a record-breaking haul of seven gold medals, while judokas and para track and field athletes also shone on the most productive day for India in the CWG on Saturday.
On the penultimate day of competitions, India jumped to the fourth spot in the medal table with 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze for a total of 39 podium finishes.
Australia continues to lead the medal table with 62 gold medals, followed by England (26 gold) and Canada (18 gold).
Out of the eight gold won by the Indians, boxers contributed seven – their best ever show in the CWG history.
India topped the boxing medal table with seven gold and three silver. The other gold was won by Soman Rana in the men’s F57 para shot put event.
