Amaravati: BARC is planning to set up a new Research and Development campus spread over 3,000 acres in the Anakapalli district here.
The premier multi-disciplinary nuclear research centre has approached the Andhra Pradesh government for the diversion of 148.15 hectares (0.366 acres) of land for the new campus, according to sources from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
An Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the ministry examined the proposal earlier this month and recommended it for ‘in-principle’ approval for the diversion of the first land parcel.
According to sources, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has given initial clearance for 148.15 hectares of land. This area is crucial for the project’s strategic location, endorsed by both the Site Selection Committee and the Atomic Energy Commission.
The initiative includes comprehensive security and infrastructure measures such as fencing, watch towers, and service lines. Despite the removal of over 1,700 trees, precautions are in place to preserve the local ecosystem, reinforcing BARC’s commitment to sustainable development.
