Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP on Tuesday strongly criticised Congress MP Renuka Choudhary for what it described as an “unbecoming and absurd” justification after cameras captured a dog inside her vehicle at the Parliament precincts on the opening day of the Winter Session.
State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-Charge N.V. Subash said the conduct of the senior Rajya Sabha member was “unacceptable and in poor taste,” adding that her attempt to defend the act only compounded the impropriety.
“It is unbecoming of a responsible and learned MP like Renuka Choudhary ji to bring a dog into the Parliament premises in her car and later justify that she did nothing wrong. Her remarks, including the pot-shot that ‘there are more biting people inside Parliament,’ are nothing short of ridicule and undermine the decorum of what is regarded as the temple of democracy,” Subash said.
He added that this was not the first time the Congress MP had displayed conduct that trivialised public institutions. “People in Hyderabad have not forgotten her abrasive behaviour toward an MLA during the GHMC elections. Similar bravado was seen during an election campaign in Cuddapah. Such clownish behaviour is unbecoming of a well-educated public representative who is fully aware of constitutional norms,” he said.
Subash reminded the Congress leadership and other Opposition members of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated appeals to uphold the dignity of Parliament and not turn it into a platform for theatrics. “The Prime Minister has been clear that Parliament should be a forum for meaningful debate and discussion that reflects the aspirations of the people—not a drama stage. Unfortunately, Congress leaders continue to trivialise the sanctity of the House,” he said.
The BJP chief spokesperson urged Opposition MPs to respect the institution, both inside and outside the House, and to refrain from actions that erode public trust in democratic processes.
