YSRCP MLA, brother arrested in Telangana over electio vandal case

Hyderabad: Macherla YSRCP incumbent MLA Pinnelli Ramakrishna Reddy and his brother, Venkatarami Reddy, were arrested near Sangareddy on Wednesday, May 22, after a viral video showed them destroying an EVM machine at a polling booth. The joint operation by AP and Telangana police followed credible information about the Reddys traveling towards Sangareddy. Despite an initial escape attempt, they were apprehended at a company’s guest house near Isnapur.

Following the video’s release, a case was filed against Ramakrishna Reddy on May 20. He faces charges under Sections 143, 147, 448, 427, 353, 452, and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code, Sections 131 and 135 of the Representation of the People Act, and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

On Wednesday, another video emerged showing the MLA threatening and abusing a woman. Additionally, he and his brother were accused of attacking Manjula, a TDP agent and relative, during a raid on a polling booth on election day. Violent incidents in Macherla and Karampudi have been linked to the brothers.

The Election Commission of India, taking the matter seriously, requested a report from Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena and ordered the arrest of the MLA.
