The present generation, particularly Generation Z, who have been earning very high salaries and particularly working in software with different working hours, are psychologically disturbed. In one study, we found that these youth are presenting with several complaints, such as mood disturbances and psychological issues. It is also noted that during this particular disturbance period, Generation Z is participating in casual sex. In an interview with this group, 48% told that they felt that the tension was relieved after sexual intercourse.

Casual sex refers to consensual sexual activity outside of a committed romantic relationship, often without expectations of intimacy or long-term commitment. It includes hook-ups, one-night stands, and friends-with-benefits, offering physical pleasure while navigating risks of (STI) Sexually Transmitted Infections spread, unintended pregnancy, and potential emotional complications, such as unexpected feelings or reduced satisfaction.

Key Aspects

It involves varied sexual behaviors with acquaintances, friends, or strangers, sometimes occurring just once or as recurring encounters. Common reasons include pursuing physical pleasure without emotional strings, being too busy for a relationship, or seeking fun after a breakup.

It is advised to be cautious about safety and health. Prioritizing physical safety through contraception and barrier methods is crucial to prevent STIs, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes, human papillomavirus that causes cancer, and unwanted pregnancies.

Psychological and Emotional Impact: While some experience it positively, others may face emotional complications. Research shows varied outcomes, with some experiencing distress or lower relationship quality of life in the later period. Clearly communicating expectations with the partner is essential to avoid heartache or misunderstanding but practically many fail to accomplish it.

One partner may develop feelings while the other does not, which is called misaligned expectations. This misalignment of expectations occurs when parties hold differing, unspoken, or unrealistic mental models of goals, roles, or outcomes, leading to eroded trust, decreased motivation, and conflict. This common issue causes professional strain, burnout, and productivity bottlenecks due to a failure to clearly communicate needs, limitations, or definitions of success.

Methodology to overcome misaligned expectations

The first step is to document what are the expectations and write down the goals, besides reviewing them with stakeholders. Try to Communicate Early and often, and check in regularly to ensure everyone is still on the same page regarding progress.

Frameworks have to be designed and use tools like the “Expectation Alignment Matrix” to map out and discuss differences. Further learn to manage constraints while acknowledging both the scope of one’s own limits and the limits of others, avoiding the assumption that constraints are merely choices. Some individuals may experience negative emotions or find it harder to form long-term bonds. For a deeper understanding of the psychology and chemistry behind this, try to explore the potential emotional and psychological impacts of casual sex:

Casual sex, is also defined as having multiple or non-exclusive partners, significantly increases the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted infections (STIs) due to promiscuity, higher exposure to unknown sexual histories and potential for unprotected, spontaneous encounters. Common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) associated with these behaviors include chlamydiagonorrheasyphilisHIV, and HPV. Promiscuity is the practice of engaging in sexual activity frequently with different partners or without discrimination. Often viewed through a lens of moral judgment or social stigma, it is commonly associated with behaviors like one-night stands. Synonyms include promiscuousness, indiscretion, and casualness in partner selection.

Risk Factors: Casual sex, particularly when involving alcohol, drugs, particularly IV drugs or the absence of barrier methods, makes transmission more likely. The IV drug goes directly into the bloodstream and reaches the brain almost immediately through the circulatory system. Thus, this method of use generates effects almost immediately, similar in speed to when a drug is smoked and much faster than snorting and oral ingestion. Traveling and having new, casual partners can triple the risk of acquiring an STI.

Intravenous (IV) drug use among youth in India is a serious, growing public health concern, particularly prevalent among adolescents and young adults aged 15–25, with high concentrations in regions like Punjab, the Northeast, and Delhi (NCR) National Capital Region.

The most commonly injected substances among youth include Heroin and Brown Sugar, which are the most prevalent injectable drug, with many addicts in states like Punjab injecting it for a faster, more intense, and very “high” provocation. It is noticed that the prescription-based painkillers like buprenorphine (commonly known as tidigesic), tramadol, codeine cough syrups, and pentazocine are often misused because they are cheaper and easier to obtain than street heroin. Also, pheniramine Maleate (Avil) is often injected in combination with heroin or buprenorphine to enhance the sedative effect. Further, Benzodiazepines, anti-anxiety medications (such as diazepam, nitrazepam, or alprazolam) are frequently used in combination with opioids to increase their effect, a practice common among urban youth. The tribal youth and the rural youth are of late addicted to Ganja, which is called as cannabis, marijuana, weed, or pot. In Andhra Pradesh, in many parts Ganja is cultivated secretly and is being exported to many parts of the country in different containers. The most perturbing factor is that the Ganja chocolates, Ganja Samosa, Ganja Bonda are also being sold in pan shops, particularly in front of corporate schools, colleges also being circulated by street children to the desired youth, according to a story published in a reading newspaper.  It is requested that the government take stringent action against the Ganja sellers to preclude this menace among the youth, the pillars of this country.

“Blood Kick”

There is an emerging trend, according to the recent 2026 reports, that is a highly dangerous practice in Bhopal, where youth are injecting their own blood back into their veins to get a high kick. The common Infections that are most frequently diagnosed include bacterial (chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis) and viral (HIV, Herpes/HSV, HPV). The paradox is that many STIs are asymptomatic in nature and do not show immediate symptoms, leading to unintentional transmission silently, particularly when new partners are met through dating apps or in casual settings. The new trend in many cities, especially on the seashore, massage parlours’ name sake, but skillfully, the youth during massage are being inducted into sexual intercourse, which is very, very dangerous as massage parlours are visited by different people from different countries, with different backgrounds and habits.

The most accurate and professional term for a person who performs massage, especially in a clinical or licensed setting, is a massage therapist. While masseur (male) and masseuse (female) are older terms, they are used less often today because they can have unprofessional or sexy connotations, and they do not always imply proper licensure. Unfortunately, many massage parlours under the name of beauty parlours for both male and female are day by day becoming day care sex centres and minting enormous money besides proliferating venereal diseases, otherwise diseases through comfort and joy. In spite of repeated police raids, according to media reports, the comfort business is mushrooming in the country. (To be continued).
