State BJP Slams Revanth Reddy Over ‘Baseless’ Allegations on Rajya Sabha Nomination Rejection
Hyderabad, June 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday strongly criticized Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for his remarks against election authorities following the rejection of Congress Rajya Sabha nominee Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination papers in Madhya Pradesh.
State BJP Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash termed Revanth Reddy’s allegation of “vote chori” and his description of the incident as a “dark day in Indian democracy” as irresponsible and misleading.
Subash said the Returning Officer had rejected Natarajan’s nomination due to the alleged non-disclosure of pending criminal cases in her election affidavit. “Instead of accepting the legal and procedural reasons behind the rejection, the Congress leadership is attempting to shift the blame onto election officials.
Concealing material facts in an election affidavit is a serious matter, and election authorities are duty-bound to act in accordance with the law,” he said.
Questioning Revanth Reddy’s stance, Subash wondered how the Chief Minister was unaware of cases registered against his own party’s nominee, particularly when they were filed under the Telangana government’s jurisdiction.
The BJP leader also took a swipe at senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who was overseeing the party’s Rajya Sabha election management in Madhya Pradesh. He questioned why the Congress leadership appeared nervous despite possessing sufficient numbers to secure the election of its candidate.
Subash further remarked that Congress should introspect over its internal shortcomings rather than making unfounded allegations against constitutional and electoral institutions.
