New Delhi:  No case of Ebola virus disease has been detected in India and a high-level review meeting was held on Wednesday to assess the preparedness of states and Union territories and response measures, official sources said.

During the meeting under the chairpersonship of Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, the health secretaries of all states and Union territories were advised to ensure readiness at all levels, they said.

The Union Health Ministry has confirmed that no Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases have been reported in India. Following the World Health Organization’s (WHO) declaration of the African outbreak as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava chaired a high-level review meeting to ensure the nationwide preparedness of all states and Union Territories.

While there is no cause for panic, the government has proactively strengthened surveillance and containment measures to prevent the spread of the rare Bundibugyo strain currently active in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.
Key Preparedness Measures

– Detailed SOPs have been circulated to all states, covering pre-arrival and post-arrival traveler screening, quarantine protocols, case management, and designated referral mechanisms.

– State health facilities and laboratories have been placed on alert to ensure timely reporting, and medical facilities are being assessed for their capacity to handle potential isolated cases safely.

– The Ministry of Health is actively coordinating with other concerned departments and ministries (such as Civil Aviation and Immigration) to implement preventive measures for incoming international travelers.

The Centre has advised the public to remain calm and rely only on official advisories, as India has prior experience in successfully managing similar international health alerts.
