Shri Veer Alija Hanuman Mandir-Indore

Shri Veer Alija Hanuman Mandir, also known as the Veer Bagichi Hanuman Temple, is a historic and revered temple located in the Panchkuian area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman is believed to be more than 700 years old and holds significant spiritual importance for devotees.

The temple is renowned for its unique tradition of dressing the deity of Lord Hanuman in different thematic attires during special occasions, festivals, or to reflect current events.

The temple showcases traditional Hindu architectural elements, featuring a sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha) where the idol of Lord Hanuman is enshrined. The idol is often adorned with a special ‘chola’ (covering) made from vermilion (sindoor), oil, silver leaves, and perfume, a unique ritual observed by devotees. The temple premises also include spaces for congregational prayers and rituals, reflecting the communal aspect of worship.

It is believed that the temple’s site was once a tranquil garden or “bagichi,” where sages and saints meditated on Lord Hanuman. The location was thought to be blessed with divine vibrations due to these spiritual practices.

According to local legends, approximately 400 years ago, an idol of Lord Hanuman was miraculously discovered within a date palm tree in the Panchkuian area. Recognizing this divine occurrence, the local community enshrined the idol at the present location, establishing the Shri Veer Alija Hanuman Mandir. The temple is also associated with the Agni Akhara, a traditional wrestling school, highlighting Lord Hanuman’s embodiment of strength and valor.

The temple is renowned for its unique rituals and traditions. One of the distinctive practices includes adorning the Hanuman idol with a special ‘chola’ (covering) made from half a kilogram of vermilion (sindoor), 200 grams of oil, 200 silver leaves, and perfume.

During the pandemic, the deity was dressed as a doctor to symbolize healing and protection.
The sanctum was decorated with over 1.25 lakh medicinal items, including syrups and capsules, as a prayer for health and well-being.

Hanuman Jayanti, Ram Navami, Diwali, Navaratri, Makara Sankranti the temple witnesses a large gathering of devotees.
Special prayers and fire rituals are held throughout the day.

The temple is decorated with flowers and lights, creating a festive mood.

Devotees offer the deity sacred cloths (cholas), and blessed food (prasadam) is distributed.
