Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh): President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday said students should use their learning to empower the underprivileged.
Addressing the first convocation of the Central University of Andhra Pradesh in Anantapur, Murmu said students had a responsibility to give back to society.
“You have the responsibility to give back to society. Let your learning become a source of strength for the underprivileged,” Murmu said.
According to the president, a convocation marks a defining moment and the culmination of years of perseverance and hard work.
“They entered the university with dreams, and today they leave with knowledge, confidence and a degree that opens new doors of opportunity for them,” she said.
She expressed confidence that the Central University of Andhra Pradesh would emerge as a centre of excellence and contribute significantly to the realisation of the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
She also said she was happy to note that the university had developed a long-term vision to become a future-ready institution.
Murmu observed that its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on quality education, reflected a sense of responsibility towards inclusive and equitable development.
Though the success of the students was the result of their own hard work, she noted that it had also been shaped by the sacrifices of their parents, the guidance of their teachers and the support of society.
“Whether they become entrepreneurs generating employment, scientists driving innovation, public servants working for the people, or philanthropists serving society,” Murmu said.
The president underlined that technological advancements were transforming every sector and, in such a rapidly changing world, learning could not and should not end with acquiring a degree.
The inclination to continuously adapt to emerging technologies would be one of the greatest strengths for students, she said, advising them to cultivate the courage to explore new ideas and acquire new knowledge.
“Our learning-oriented, resilient and innovative youth are our precious national assets,” she said.
By combining their knowledge with creativity, determination and a sense of responsibility, the youth could transform challenges into opportunities and contribute to building a more inclusive and prosperous India, she added.
Murmu said honesty, compassion, empathy and respect for nature were not only lofty moral ideals but were also the foundation of holistic development.
These qualities would enable them to enrich their lives and contribute meaningfully to society and the nation, she said.
The president said the vision of Viksit Bharat could be realised only through the energy, talent and commitment of the youth.
Whatever path they chose, they should pursue excellence with dedication and integrity, she added.
Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Human Resources Minister Nara Lokesh and Finance Minister P Keshav attended the convocation.
