Bettadapura Shree Ranganatha Swamy Temple – Arasikere

Shree Ranganatha Swamy Temple is a sacred shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in Bettadapura, a small town near Arsikere in the Hassan district of Karnataka. The temple stands majestically on a hillock, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. To reach the temple, devotees must climb a flight of stone steps that lead to the divine sanctum. Bettadapura, meaning “Hill Town”, is known for its spiritual significance and historical importance.

The temple is built in the Dravidian style, featuring intricately carved stone pillars, beautifully sculpted walls, and a grand entrance. The sanctum houses the idol of Lord Ranganatha, a reclining form of Lord Vishnu, resting on the Adi Shesha (the cosmic serpent). The temple also has a Mahadwara (main entrance), a spacious mandapa (hall), and a beautifully decorated gopuram (tower). The sculptures and inscriptions inside the temple depict various stories from Hindu mythology, adding to its historical and spiritual value.

Devotees believe that offering prayers at this temple removes obstacles, grants good health, and fulfills wishes.

The temple celebrates several important Hindu festivals with great devotion. The Rathotsava (Chariot Festival) is the most significant event, attracting thousands of devotees who participate in the grand procession of Lord Ranganatha. Other festivals like Vaikunta Ekadashi, Sri Rama Navami, and Deepavali are also observed with special poojas and cultural events.
