New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held insightful discussions with global CEOs on scaling up artificial intelligence in a responsible manner and strengthening global collaboration.
The CEO Roundtable at the India AI Impact Summit brought together various stakeholders from the world of AI, technology, and innovation.
“The discussions were insightful and forward-looking, focused on scaling AI responsibly, strengthening global collaboration,n and unlocking opportunities for growth,” Modi said in a post on X.
Thursday was the most high-profile day of the Indian AI Summit, featuring keynotes from top tech CEOs and speeches by PM Modi, French President Emmanuel Macron, and other leaders. Microsoft founder Bill Gates pulled out of the summit just hours before he was scheduled to speak.
PM Modi welcomed participants to what he called the most historic AI Summit in the world. He also posed for a group photograph with global technology leaders, including Sundar Pichai, Sam Altman, Alexandr Wang, and Dario Amodei at the summit in Delhi.
The Prime Minister’s jam-packed schedule began with the inauguration of the AI Summit at Bharat Mandapam today. Addressing the event, Modi said India is home to the world’s largest youth population, the biggest tech talent pool, and a thriving tech-enabled ecosystem.
The Prime Minister asserted that AI is making machines intelligent and multiplying human capacity. He remarked that the real question is not what AI can do in the future, but what humanity chooses to do with AI in the present, drawing parallels with nuclear power. He said the purpose of the summit was to deliberate on how AI can be made human-centric, sensitive and responsible.
He also outlined his MANAV vision for AI, which stands for Moral and Ethical Systems, Accountable Governance, National Sovereignty, Accessible and Inclusive, and Valid and Legitimate. Stressing the need for global standards, PM Modi said India’s MANAV Vision will become a crucial link for humanity’s welfare in the AI-driven world of the 21st century.
The Prime Minister also shared his remarks at the Leaders’ Plenary Session of the AI Summit, where he expressed confidence that the summit will play a crucial role in building a human‑centric and sensitive global AI ecosystem.
PM Modi emphasised the importance of making AI technology accessible to all and placing the aspirations and priorities of the Global South at the centre of AI governance. He suggested several steps for ethical use of AI – including a data framework, clear safety rules, and human guidance.
He also outlined India’s steps in AI, such as adding GPUs, providing world-class computing power to startups, and creating an AI fund. He underlined the need to build an AI future that advances innovation, strengthens inclusion, and integrates human values.
Next, Prime Minister Modi held bilateral meetings with top leaders of Greece, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, focusing on boosting ties in areas of trade and investment and critical technologies, including semiconductors.
Modi also met Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the discussions centred around boosting cooperation in futuristic sectors such as artificial intelligence, supercomputers, and data centres.
Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which is underpinned by strong political, cultural, commercial, energy, and people-to-people ties, according to an official release.
The Prime Minister then addressed the CEO Roundtable at the AI Impact Summit, which brought together various stakeholders from the world of AI, technology, and innovation. “The discussions were insightful and forward-looking, focused on scaling AI responsibly, strengthening global collaboration, and unlocking opportunities for growth,” he said on X.
The India AI Impact Summit, billed as a flagship event in the Global South, is hosting at least 20 heads of state and top tech leaders. The exhibition was closed to the general public on Thursday and to make up for the closure, the government has extended the expo by an additional day, keeping it open until Saturday, February 21.
