Nairobi/New Delhi – In a historic step towards strengthening healthcare and economic ties, India and Kenya have signed the Green Channel Treaty, an initiative aimed at expanding specialist medical care, medical tourism, capacity building, and research collaboration.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was formalized between the World Allergy Foundation (WAF) and the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) of Kenya, unlocking new opportunities for healthcare access and economic growth.
LREB, a coalition of 14 rapidly developing counties around Lake Victoria, has been designated a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for healthcare and economic development, benefitting its 14 million residents. The agreement positions Kenya as a key player in regional healthcare while facilitating seamless access to India’s advanced medical expertise.
Key Highlights of the Agreement:
✅ Enhanced Healthcare Access: Establish state-of-the-art medical facilities in Africa and India to provide affordable and specialized care.
✅ Medical Tourism Growth: Creating an online platform linking African patients with top Indian specialists, ensuring smooth travel and treatment in leading Indian cities like Hyderabad.
✅ Training & Capacity Building: Conducting specialized training for healthcare professionals and policymakers while fostering interdisciplinary medical research.
✅ Collaborative Research: Advancing studies in Immunological Health, Cultural Health, Climate Health, and Social Health, with support from global experts.
The Green Channel Treaty aims to revolutionize healthcare access, making world-class medical treatment more accessible to African patients while setting new standards in regional healthcare development. This partnership is expected to boost economic opportunities for both nations through medical tourism and healthcare innovation.
The MoU was signed by WAF President Dr. Vyakarnam Nageshwar and LREB CEO Mr. Victor Nyagaya, in the presence of key dignitaries, including LREB Goodwill Ambassador Mr. Gannavarapu Srinivas, Former Vice-Chancellor of California University Mr. Nick Dominic, and WAF International Medical Operations Advisor Mr. Jayanthi Abhijit.
LREB CEO Victor Nyagaya, known for his successful collaboration with Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), reaffirmed LREB’s commitment to making healthcare a pillar of economic growth.
