Shri Hanumantha Swamy Temple is located in Kalloli village of Gokak Taluk in Belagavi district of Karnataka. The temple lies close to the Karnataka–Maharashtra border and is one of the most famous Hanuman temples in North Karnataka. Devotees from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa regularly visit this sacred shrine for the blessings of Lord Hanuman.
The shrine was established during the period of the great saint Samarth Ramdas in the 17th century. This makes the temple several centuries old. Over time, the temple gained immense popularity due to the strong devotional beliefs associated with the deity and the miracles experienced by devotees.
The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Hanuman, worshipped here as Shri Hanumantha Swamy, Maruti, and Veeranjaneya. The temple is especially famous for its tall and majestic idol of Hanuman, which reflects North Indian artistic influence and radiates divine strength and devotion.
Devotees worship Hanuman here for courage, confidence, protection, relief from fear, and success in life. Many people believe that sincere prayers offered at this temple remove obstacles, negative energies, and mental stress. The deity is beautifully decorated with sindoor, flowers, garlands, and ornaments during special pujas and festivals.
The temple is also considered the family deity (Kuladevata/Mane Devaru) by many families from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa.
The temple reflects a blend of traditional Karnataka temple architecture and North Indian artistic style. The main sanctum houses the grand idol of Hanuman Swamy, which is the major attraction of the temple. The powerful appearance of the deity creates a strong spiritual atmosphere inside the sanctum.
A magnificent deepastambha (lamp pillar) supported by four sculpted elephants stands in front of the sanctum and adds grandeur to the temple premises. The temple complex also includes spacious prayer areas where devotees gather for bhajans, religious programs, and special rituals.
The temple has a huge entrance gateway with a small side doorway called the “Diddi Baagilu.” According to local belief, devotees entering through this doorway and touching the sacred stone structure called “Borgal” with their backs receive relief from back pain and waist pain.
Inside the temple are also sacred giant padukas associated with Hanuman Swamy. Devotees place these padukas on their head and back, seeking blessings and relief from illnesses.
According to temple tradition, the temple was established during the time of the great saint Samarth Ramdas, who was a great devotee of Lord Rama and Hanuman. Samarth Ramdas is believed to have established several Hanuman temples across different regions to spread devotion, courage, and dharma among people.
Since Samarth Ramdas originally belonged to Maharashtra, the temple developed strong spiritual connections with devotees from Maharashtra as well. Even today, large numbers of devotees from Pune, Karad, and various Maharashtra districts visit the temple regularly.
According to local belief and temple history, Lord Maruti once appeared in the dream of Samarth Ramdas and instructed him to consecrate his idol at a sacred location. Guided by this divine vision, Samarth Ramdas identified Kalloli as a spiritually powerful place for the installation of the deity and established the temple there.
According to temple tradition, Samarth Ramdas also consecrated Goddess Chowdeshwari (Lakshmi Devi) on the right side of the sanctum and Lord Ganesha on the left side. These deities symbolize prosperity, protection, and the removal of obstacles.
The temple also houses a four-foot Shiva Linga believed to have been consecrated by sages through mantra siddhis. The sacred teertha associated with this Linga is traditionally believed to possess healing powers. Even today, the teertha is distributed especially on Thursdays and Sundays, and local devotees believe it helps neutralize the effects of snake bites, scorpion stings, and dog bites.
Another strong local belief is connected with the sacred Borgal stone and Hanuman padukas present in the temple premises. Devotees believe that performing these rituals with faith helps relieve physical pain and health problems.
Because of these beliefs and spiritual experiences, the temple has become a major center of Hanuman devotion for devotees from Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Goa.
The temple is considered one of the spiritually powerful Hanuman temples in the Belagavi region. Saturdays attract huge crowds as the day is considered highly sacred for Hanuman worship. Devotees perform archana, abhisheka, pradakshina, and bhajans seeking peace, courage, health, and protection.
The atmosphere of the temple becomes deeply devotional during special occasions, with continuous chanting of Rama Nama and Hanuman Chalisa by devotees.
