Durvasa Dham is located in Durbasa village near Phulpur in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh. It lies close to the banks and confluence region of the Tamsa (Tons) river and nearby streams, creating a naturally peaceful and spiritually vibrant atmosphere. This sacred site is traditionally believed to be the ashram of Sage Durvasa.
The exact construction period of the temple is not clearly documented, but the site is considered extremely ancient and associated with Vedic and Puranic times. Its sanctity is believed to have begun thousands of years ago when Sage Durvasa performed intense penance here. Over the centuries, the present temple structures were gradually developed by devotees and local rulers.
The main deity worshipped in the temple is Lord Shiva in the form of a Swayambhu Shivling, believed to have manifested naturally and revered for its spiritual power. Sage Durvasa is also worshipped here, as he is regarded as an incarnation of Shiva’s divine energy. The temple complex includes shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesha and Kartikeya, along with Nandi and the Navagrahas, offering a complete spiritual experience for devotees.

This transformed the place into a Siddha Kshetra, a spiritually accomplished and powerful site. The nearby water bodies are also considered sacred, as they are believed to carry the energy of the sage’s penance, and ritual bathing here is said to purify devotees and remove negative influences.

The month of Shravan is also highly important, especially Mondays dedicated to special jalabhishek rituals. Guru Purnima is observed to honor Sage Durvasa and the guru tradition. Amavasya days and local melas bring vibrant religious gatherings with bhajans and cultural activities.
