Radha Gokulananda Temple is located in the holy town of Vrindavan in Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Vrindavan, situated on the banks of the sacred Yamuna River, is revered as the land where Lord Krishna performed his divine pastimes with Radha and the gopis. The temple lies within the old temple area of Vrindavan surrounded by many historic Krishna temples and traditional devotional centers.
The temple was established in the 16th century CE, making it more than 450 years old. It belongs to the period when the saints of the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition revived Krishna devotion in Vrindavan under the inspiration of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The temple continues to preserve worship practices followed since that time.
The presiding deities of the temple are Sri Radha Gokulananda, representing Lord Krishna with Goddess Radha. Along with the main deity, several sacred and historic deities are worshipped together, including Radha-Vijaya Govinda and Radha-Vinoda. A special feature of the temple is the Govardhan Shila, believed to have been personally worshipped by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Radha Gokulananda Temple was established by Sri Lokanath Goswami, one of the foremost disciples of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. After Chaitanya Mahaprabhu encouraged his followers to rediscover Krishna’s sacred places, many saints settled in Vrindavan and established temples dedicated to Radha and Krishna.
During periods of political unrest in North India, several important deities from other temples were brought here for safety, which is why multiple historic deities are worshipped together today. Great Vaishnava acharyas such as Narottama Dasa Thakur and Vishwanath Chakravarti Thakur were associated with this temple, enhancing its spiritual importance.
According to Vaishnava belief, Vrindavan is eternally blessed as the divine playground of Lord Krishna. The area where the temple stands is believed to have been sanctified by deep meditation and devotional practices of saints who experienced spiritual visions of Radha and Krishna.
The Govardhan Shila preserved in the temple is especially sacred. Tradition states that Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu worshipped this stone with intense devotion, seeing it as Krishna Himself. Devotees believe that offering prayers here grants spiritual purification and strengthens devotion toward Radha and Krishna.

Radha Gokulananda Temple is known for celebrating traditional Braj-style Holi, which reflects the divine playful pastimes of Radha and Krishna in Vrindavan. Unlike large public celebrations, Holi here is observed in a deeply devotional manner with kirtans, flower offerings, and the application of sacred colors to the deities.
The temple follows the ancient Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition where Holi symbolizes divine love and spiritual joy rather than mere festivity. Devotees sing Krishna bhajans while priests offer gulal and flowers to Radha and Krishna, recreating the spiritual mood of Krishna’s Holi with the gopis. Because of its authentic and peaceful celebration style preserved for centuries, devotees consider the temple an important place to experience traditional devotional Holi in Vrindavan.
Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Holi, Janmashtami, Radhashtami, Gaura Purnima, Jhulan Yatra, and special prayers during the sacred month of Kartik. All festivals are observed with devotional singing, traditional rituals, and simple yet spiritually focused celebrations.
