Suryanjaneya Temple is located in Suryapura village, Koratagere Taluk, Tumkur District, Karnataka.
The presiding deity is Lord Suryanjaneya Swamy, a rare combination of the Sun God and Hanuman. As per local tradition, devotees first visit the Gutte Ganapati Temple before coming here for darshan.
The temple is believed to be more than 600 years old. It is considered the only temple in the world where Lord Surya (Sun God) and Lord Anjaneya (Hanuman) are worshipped together, which is a rare combination of the Sun God and Lord Hanuman.
Lord Hanuman here is portrayed as a devoted disciple who learned scriptures and divine powers under the guidance of Lord Surya, his Guru. Worshipping here is said to bring blessings of both divine knowledge and strength.
The temple structure follows traditional South Indian style with a simple yet spiritually powerful sanctum. The shrine is designed to align perfectly with the sunrise, ensuring that the first rays of the morning sun fall directly on the deity.
This temple is believed to be one of the rare sacred places where the Guru (Surya) and Shishya (Hanuman) are worshipped together in the same sanctum. In Hindu tradition, Hanuman once became a disciple of Surya to learn the scriptures.
In the Ramayana, during the war between Lord Rama and Ravana, Rama struggled to defeat Ravana. Sage Agastya appeared before Rama and taught him the Aditya Hridaya Stotra, a powerful hymn to Lord Surya. Reciting this hymn filled Rama with renewed strength and confidence, leading to his victory.
Since Hanuman is both Rama’s devoted servant and Surya’s disciple, worshipping them together symbolises the unity of victory, strength, devotion, and wisdom. Suryapura is believed to be the only place where these two divine forces reside together.
Devotees believe that darshan of Sri Suryanjaneya Swamy, especially on Ugadi, grants year-long health, courage, and success. Hanuman Jayanti and local festivals are also celebrated with devotion and community gatherings.
