New Delhi: Droupadi Murmu and Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep grief over the fire mishap at a hospital in Odisha that claimed ten lives.
President Murmu, who hails from the state, said she was deeply distressed by the tragic incident and conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“I am deeply distressed over the tragic incident and convey my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” she said in a statement.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed profound anguish over the loss of lives and described the tragedy as “mind-numbing.” He said his thoughts were with the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Prime Minister said he had spoken to Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda and asked him to facilitate the transfer of the injured to All India Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment.
Modi also spoke to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and directed him to ensure all possible assistance to the injured and affected.
He further said he had spoken to Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister of Odisha, and assured all possible support from the Centre in dealing with the tragedy.
