PMK’s Anbumani faction joins NDA

Chennai: The Dr Anbumani Ramadoss-led faction of PMK in Tamil Nadu joined the NDA on Wednesday, with the leader calling on AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami here, months ahead of the Assembly polls in the state.

AIADMK leads the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.

Ramadoss met the AIADMK general secretary at his residence here to formally join the coalition, whose other constituent is the BJP.

In 2021, the PMK fought alongside the AIADMK but joined hands with the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With the AIADMK and the BJP now coming together for the ensuing Assembly polls, the PMK faction has joined the coalition.

Anbumani Ramadoss met AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami this morning to confirm his faction’s inclusion in the alliance.

Palaniswami later told journalists that seat allocation to the PMK had been finalised. He did not reveal the figure.

With Anbumani Ramadoss joining the AIADMK front, it will be interesting to see which alliance the faction led by his father, S Ramadoss, joins.

Recently, PMK founder S Ramadoss was elected party president at the party’s general council meeting in Salem. The meeting “expelled” Anbumani Ramadoss’ wife, Sowmiya Anbumani, from the post of president of Pasumai Thaayagam, an environmental wing of the party.
