Sri Navasakthi Kamakshi Ambal Temple, located in Madipakkam, Chennai, is a sacred temple dedicated to Goddess Kamakshi. This temple is unique because it houses the tallest Kamakshi idol in Tamil Nadu, standing at nine feet. Devotees believe that the Goddess represents the nine divine forms of Shakti (Navasakthi), making it a powerful place to seek blessings.
The temple is built in a traditional South Indian style, featuring intricate carvings and a beautiful sanctum for Goddess Kamakshi. The main deity is a nine-foot-tall idol, making it the largest Kamakshi statue in Tamil Nadu. The temple also has separate shrines for Sri Sarva Sidhi Vinayagar and Sri Muthu Kumarasamy with Valli and Devasena.
One of the most special aspects of this temple is its GoShala (cow shelter), where cows are lovingly taken care of. Go Poojas (cow worship rituals) are performed regularly, as cows are considered sacred in Hinduism.
The temple was founded by Shri and Srimathi Radha Sethuraman, who are known as Radha Amma and Sethuraman Appa. It is said that Radha Amma had a divine vision of Goddess Kamakshi, instructing her to establish a shrine dedicated to the Goddess. Inspired by this spiritual experience, though she faced many challenges, her deep devotion helped to construct this sacred place. Today, the temple stands as a symbol of faith, devotion, and divine grace.
The Sri Navasakthi Kamakshi Ambal Temple celebrates several grand festivals and special poojas. Navaratri, a nine-day festival, is dedicated to Goddess Durga, featuring special poojas and beautiful alankarams (decorations). Sacred rituals mark the Aadi month (July-August) for prosperity and well-being. Devotees perform special prayers for spiritual growth and peace on Pournami (Full Moon) and Amavasya (New Moon) days. Fridays are especially significant, with unique rituals for those seeking marital harmony and financial stability. Monthly special poojas further enhance the temple’s spiritual energy, drawing devotees to seek divine blessings.
