Solashi Shani Temple is located in Solashi (also called Solshi) village, in Koregaon Taluka of Satara District, Maharashtra. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Shani (Shaneshwara Bhagavan), the powerful planetary god associated with Saturn.
The black stone idol of Lord Shani is enshrined in the sanctum and is worshipped as a remover of difficulties caused by past karma and planetary influences, especially Shani Dasha and Sade Sati. Local tradition strongly believes that Solashi is the birthplace of Lord Shani, which gives this temple unique spiritual importance.
The Solashi Shani Temple is noted for its unique mirror and glass decoration, which makes the sanctum and interior walls shine beautifully in sunlight and lamps. The temple complex is neat and well-maintained, offering a calm and disciplined atmosphere. There is sufficient space for devotees, and parking is available nearby. The temple is set against a backdrop of green hills, adding to its charm.
The temple is considered very ancient, with its origins rooted in local traditions that place Lord Shani’s janmasthala (birthplace) at Solashi. Over time, the shrine developed into an important pilgrimage spot in Maharashtra. For centuries, devotees from nearby regions have visited this temple to seek relief from Shani Dosha and other astrological troubles.
According to the local legends and beliefs, Solashi village in Satara is the birthplace (janmasthala) of Lord Shani. It is said that Lord Surya, the Sun God, was married to Chhaya Devi, and from their union was born Shani. When Shani was born, his appearance was dark, with eyes full of power and discipline. From the moment of his birth, his divine energy was so intense that even the Sun’s brilliance dimmed for a while. This sacred event is believed to have taken place at Solashi, and hence the place is considered highly auspicious.
The people of Solashi worshipped Shani Dev with great respect because they believed he had the power to balance karma and deliver justice. Over time, a temple was built at this very place to honor his birth and his role as the stern but just deity among the Navagrahas. Devotees believe that those who come here with sincerity and worship Shani Dev can reduce the difficulties of Shani Dasha and Sade Sati, the most testing periods of one’s life as per astrology.
An important belief associated with this temple is that Lord Shani blesses devotees here more gently than in other shrines because this is his birthplace. Even though he is known as the planet that tests human beings by bringing struggles and hardships, in his Janmasthal, he is said to be compassionate, forgiving, and quick to reduce karmic burdens when approached with humility and devotion.
The most important days of worship are Saturdays, especially Shani Amavasya (when the new moon falls on a Saturday) and Shani Jayanti (the birthday of Lord Shani). On these occasions, the temple attracts thousands of devotees. Special rituals like Tailabhishekam (oil abhishekam), lighting of sesame oil lamps, and community offerings are performed. These festivals are believed to reduce the hardships of Shani Dasha and bring peace, prosperity, and protection to devotees.
