Smriti Irani, Anurag Thakur among sitting ministers who got dropped from Modi 3.0 Cabinet

New Delhi: After the hectic parleys over NDA’s third historic term, BJP leaders, including Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur, were found notably absent from the finalised Cabinet lineup. Narendra Modi on Sunday took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive term at a swearing-in ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Irani, the sitting Women and Child Development Minister, lost the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi to Congress loyalist Kishori Lal Sharma. Meanwhile, Thakur, who won the general election from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur, was also not retained in the Modi 3.0 Cabinet. He held the sports, and information & broadcasting portfolios in the second term of the Modi government.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who lost to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a close contest from Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, has also been dropped from the new government.

Notably, senior party leaders like Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Nirmala Sitharaman and Mansukh Mandaviya took oath as the Union ministers again in the Modi Cabinet 3.0.
