Kumbakonam Raghavendra Swamy Mutt is located in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, a town known for its rich spiritual heritage and famous temples. This is one of the oldest Mutts visited by Raghavendra Swamy.

Sri Raghavendra Swamy, originally named Venkatanatha, pursued advanced studies in Dvaita philosophy under the guidance of Sri Sudhindra Tirtha at the Kumbakonam Mutt. Recognizing Venkatanatha’s profound scholarship and devotion, Sri Sudhindra Tirtha appointed him as his successor. In 1623, Venkatanatha embraced Sanyasa and was bestowed the title of Raghavendra Tirtha. He led the mutt from 1624 to 1636, during which he composed numerous theological works and engaged in spiritual discourses, solidifying the mutt’s reputation as a center of learning and devotion.

During his tenure as the head of the Kumbakonam Mutt from 1624 to 1636, Sri Raghavendra Swamy, One notable miracle attributed to him during this period involved alleviating a severe drought that had afflicted the Tanjore district for 12 years. The region’s ruler, Sevvappa Nayak, sought Swamiji’s guidance for relief. Under Raghavendra Swamy’s direction, specific Yagnas (sacrificial rituals) were performed, leading to the onset of rains and the restoration of prosperity in the area. In gratitude, the Maharaja gifted the Mutt a necklace adorned with precious stones.
The Aradhana Mahotsavam of Sri Raghavendra Swamy is the most important festival celebrated at the mutt. This annual event, held in August, includes special abhishekams, poojas, bhajans, and discourses. Other important occasions like Guru Jayanti, Madhwa Navami, and Ekadashi are also observed with great devotion.
