Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Monday issued an order attaching Himachal Bhavan in Delhi after the Congress-led Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government failed to pay electricity dues amounting to around Rs 150 crore.
Himachal Bhavan is located at Mandi House in the national capital.
The court has also directed the Principal Secretary of the Power Department to conduct a fact-finding inquiry to identify the officials responsible for the negligence that led to this situation.
The court’s decision comes after the Sukhu government ignored previous orders to repay Rs 64 crore, which has now increased to nearly Rs 150 crore due to interest.
The court’s decision comes after the state government fails to comply with a previous order to repay Rs 64 crore, which has now grown to nearly Rs 150 crore due to interest.
Sources said that the case relates to the 400 MW Seli Hydro Project on the Chenab River in Lahaul-Spiti.
In earlier proceedings, the government was ordered to return the Rs 64 crore, plus 7 per cent interest, which had been deposited by the company.
The court had previously warned the government that failure to repay the dues would lead to serious consequences. It also emphasised that the funds involved were from the state treasury.
With the latest decision, the court has now allowed the company to auction Himachal Bhavan to recover the outstanding amount.
