Election Day in America: Millions Vote as Race Narrows

Washington: Americans head to the polls to elect their next President, with a choice between Democrat Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump. Over 77 million have already cast early ballots, reports the Associated Press. The final Election Day votes are being cast now before polls close nationwide.

While some states may deliver results quickly, others may take longer due to individual ballot-counting procedures, and potential legal challenges could also add to delays. In recent years, Election Day has often extended into “election week,” as states work through their specific processes.

Vote counting will begin immediately after polling closes, and major networks are expected to project results for straightforward races first. However, results from critical swing states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia could take longer to finalize.

First polls close at 6:00 p.m. EST, with final poll closures at 1:00 a.m. EST Wednesday. Key times include:

  • 7:00 p.m. EST: Polls close in Georgia and other states
  • 8:00 p.m. EST: Pennsylvania closes, alongside 15 other states
  • 9:00 p.m. EST: Michigan and key swing states complete voting
  • 10:00 p.m. EST: Nevada and remaining states wrap up

Americans may expect a projected winner late tonight or early Wednesday, although official confirmation awaits final electoral votes.
