Bumrah fifer on return, Rahul”s unbeaten fifty keeps India steady after Root ton at Lord”s

London: Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul and Joe Root’s sublime century set up an absorbing contest before KL Rahul’s composed unbeaten 53 guided India to 145 for three at stumps on day two of the third Test against England at Lord’s on Friday.

At stumps, India trailed by 242 runs with Rahul and Rishabh Pant (19 batting) at the crease.

Bumrah (5/74) dismantled England’s middle and lower order to claim his second successive five-wicket haul and 15th overall, as the hosts were bowled out for 387 after resuming the day on 251/4. In this case, he broke the record of Kapil Dev (12 times).

In reply to England’s 387 runs, India has scored 145/3 till stumps on the second day. India is still 242 runs behind. Team India did not have a good start, as the first blow came at the score of 13 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Jofra Archer, who was out after scoring 13 runs. However, Karun Nair and KL Rahul did handle India’s innings, but Ben Stokes broke their half-century partnership by dismissing Nair. Nair, who was in good rhythm, was dismissed after scoring 40 runs. Captain Shubman Gill’s bat did not work, and he fell prey to Chris Woakes on 16 runs.

After this, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul did not let India suffer any further loss and remained at the crease till stumps. Rahul has scored a half-century. He is unbeaten on 53 runs in 113 balls. England’s first innings were reduced to 387 runs in the Lord’s Test. Joe Root scored the highest 104 runs. Jasprit Bumrah took five wickets for India. England started the second day’s play at 251 runs for four wickets. Wickets fell quickly in the morning and England lost three more wickets till 271. Root, who was unbeaten on 99 on the first day, was out at 104, Stokes at 44 and Chris Woakes at zero. Jasprit Bumrah took the wickets of all three.
