Zero tolerance for any kind of violence: CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Bihar polls

Kanpur: Any act of violence will not be tolerated and voters will be able to cast their votes peacefully and freely in Bihar, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar asserted on Sunday, a day after the poll body took action against officials in Patna following violence during campaigning in Mokama.

“The Election Commission has zero tolerance towards any form of violence during polls,” the CEC told reporters here.

“Any act of violence will not be tolerated. All voters will be able to cast their votes peacefully, freely, and transparently. The Election Commission is fully prepared for this, he said.

He further urged the voters to come out in large numbers without any fear and take part in the celebration of democracy. He said that the Commission is fully prepared to successfully operate the election machinery so that every voter can practice their democratic rights.

“All voters will get the opportunity to celebrate the festival of democracy. The polling will be held under the framework of law and order. I hope every voter will exercise their franchise,” the CEC told PTI.

Following the murder of Yadav, the Patna police arrested Janata Dal (United) leader and the former mokama-murder-case-2812168-2025-11-02″ target=”_blank”>MLA of Mokama, Anant Singh. Along with Singh, two others, Manikant Thakur and Ranjeet Ram, were also taken into custody for their alleged presence during the incident.

The voting for the 243-seat Bihar assembly will be held on November 6 and November 11. Mokama, which is expected to witness a high-voltage battle between JD(U)’s Anant Singh and Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Veena Devi,  the wife of influential leader Surbhajan Singh, will go to the polls on November 6 in the first phase. Piyush Priyadarshini will contest on a Jan Suraaj ticket.

The results will be declared on November 14.
