Manama (Bahrain): Teenage wrestler Yashita dug deep into her reserves of energy to overcome a gritty Kazakh opponent and clinch the girls’ 61kg gold on a day when six Indian boxers sailed into the final to assure the country of half a dozen medals in the Youth Asian Games here on Tuesday.
In an extremely keenly-contested bout, Yashita, 17, defeated Kazakhstan’s Zhaidar Muktar based on the final point scored after the two were tied at 5-all.
Earlier, Yashita had defeated Kyrgyzstan’s Akylai Chynybaeva 6-0 in the semifinal.
Her triumph took India’s medal tally to 26 (4 gold, 10 silver, 12 bronze), with the country currently placed 11th overall, as China continue to lead the standings with 47 golds and 100 total medals.
Indian Boxers Assured Medal Finish
In boxing, six Indian pugilists assured themselves of medals by storming into their respective finals.
Khushi Chand (46kg) blanked Mongolia’s Altanzul Altangadas 5-0 to set up a gold-medal bout with China’s Chen Fang-yu.
Chandrika Pujari (54kg), Harnoor Kaur (66kg), Ahaana Sharma (50kg) and Anshika (80kg+) all advanced to their title fights with commanding wins.
