New York: US President Donald Trump has demanded the prosecution of former vice president Kamala Harris, alleging that she paid a “large amount of money” to celebrity artists for endorsements during last year’s presidential election.
“YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PAY FOR AN ENDORSEMENT. IT IS ILLEGAL TO DO SO. Can you imagine what would happen if politicians started paying for people to endorse them? All hell would break out!” Trump said in a social media post on Saturday.
Harris was Trump’s Democratic opponent during the 2024 presidential race, which the 79-year-old Republican leader eventually won, securing a second term in the White House.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump alleged that Democrats used campaign funds to buy endorsements from high-profile public figures, in violation of campaign finance laws.
Trump named several public figures, including singer Beyoncé, television host Oprah Winfrey, and civil rights activist and television personality Al Sharpton, accusing them of accepting payments in exchange for their public support of the Democratic campaign.
“I’m looking at the large amount of money owed by the Democrats after the presidential election,” Trump wrote. “They admit to paying, probably illegally, eleven million dollars to singer Beyoncé for an endorsement…They also paid three million dollars for ‘expenses’ to Oprah, six hundred thousand dollars to very low-rated TV ‘anchor,’ Al Sharpton.”
He added that the payments were “incorrectly stated in the books and records.”
Trump went on to demand legal action, saying: “Kamala, and all of those that received Endorsement money, broke the law. They should all be prosecuted! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Trump’s latest accusations come amid criticism of his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case files. Responding to growing scrutiny, Trump lashed out at the ongoing investigation, calling it a distraction engineered by his political opponents.
According to The Hill, Trump has directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to work on releasing the grand jury testimonies of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
