As per officials, the BJP won 584 out of 606 gram panchayats, 34 panchayat samitis of 35 and eight of eight zila parishads. In June, the ruling BJP had won both Lok Sabha seats in the state.

In the panchayat elections, the BJP won 93 of the 96 seats in eight zilla parishads while the Congress and the CP(M) bagged two and 1 seat, respectively, state election commissioner Asit Kumar Das said.

The performance was similar in panchayat samitis where the party won 1,476 of the 1,819 gram panchayats. The Congress and CPI(M) bagged eight and six seats respectively.

Similarly, the BJP won 1476 of the 1819 gram Panchayats it contested while the Congress and the TIPRA Motha bagged 148, 151, and 24 seats respectively.

While the BJP thanked the people of the state for reposing their faith in the Modi government, while the Opposition parties said that they could not field any candidates in 71 percent of the seats that the BJP won uncontested.

Speaking to the media following the results, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that the results have displayed the extent of the people’s support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his leadership.

The BJP won 97% of the seats with huge margins. “There must be an effort to win all 100 percent seats in the future,” Saha said.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) said that the results have come as a wake-up call for the BJP as it faced tough competition in seats where the Opposition fielded candidates.
