The power of silence

The power of silence is better felt than explained.  Depending on the situation, its power ensures success in both personal and in professional fields.  It is a belief that speech is silver and silence is gold. However, in contemporary conditions, terms and conditions apply to this belief. In the present conditions, there is a dire need to realise the power of silence, analyse the situation, and use the silence as a weapon for achieving success in personal and in professional life. Silence can be used as a powerful weapon not only in day-to-day life but also diplomatically for the improvement of international relations. In a democratic country, the silent revolution can change the government without even giving a hint to the seasoned politicians. The strategic silence has multi-dimensional benefits.

Silence plays a vital role in personal life. It enriches the concentration levels of individuals.  It can be used as a better stress burster.  It facilitates better interpersonal relations by limiting the usage of undue and overenthusiastic words. It helps in result-oriented Communication. But undue silence may lead to foolishness. Hence, it should be used judiciously.

Effective communication skills are essential for achieving success in professional life. However, sometimes even silence also helps in achieving success in professional life. Silence facilitates maintaining the official secrecy and increases trust in the professionals. In contemporary conditions, the mobility of human resources is a common thing.  However, due to various reasons the professional jealousy is a natural thing. Hence, depending on the situation, reasonable silence is helpful in career growth. Therefore, in many situations, silence is the best technique of responding to the provocations of selfish people.

The multidimensional growth of any country depends on its effective international relations. Some countries have an imperialistic mindset for the reasons better known to themselves. But they express it in several ways, like increasing tariffs or imposing illogical sanctions. Some other countries express their hatred towards certain countries by passing unnecessary comments on internal matters or by spreading false narratives. Certain other countries exhibit their negative attitude by promoting cross-country terrorist activities. Some other countries express their ingratitude through their illogical activities.  But India proved its power with silent strategic responses, and at the same time, if the situation demands, we do not hesitate to give a fitting reply not only with words but also with perfect actions. These effective actions of India not only silenced our adversaries but also induced them to bow down either directly or indirectly. Hence, these incidents prove that silent strategies and actions are more powerful weapons than illogical activities based on the negative mindset of certain other countries.

The Indian culture believes and preaches the noble principle that “Karma returns with appropriate results”.

Certain live examples of the success of silent strategies of India in the contemporary era confirm this principle.

The USA tried to pressure India with heavy Tariffs. India maintained strategic silence and used this challenge as an opportunity to develop business ties with other countries.  After the successful visit of the Russian President to India, the USA may make certain changes in its policies of Tariffs.

When Turkey suffered due to a severe earthquake quake India voluntarily helped them. But the Turkey worked against the interests of India by supporting Pakistan. Today the Turkey is suffering from food shortages and an economic crisis. It is literally expected that India would help. As of date, the silence of India is a suitable punishment for Turkey.

The thankless Bangladesh under its present caretaker Government is trying to harm India. The silent strategy of India literally collapsed the economy of Bangladesh.

The silence may not be an appropriate action for countries like Pakistan. India is capable of teaching a suitable lesson to countries like Pakistan by mixing silent diplomatic strategies with appropriate actions. Silence is an invisible weapon. It is a proven fact that the silent strategy is more powerful than the undue and false narrations of countries like Pakistan.

Sometimes silence is considered as 50% of acceptance. Hence, we should be careful in our communication. Communication skills decide the success in every field. Traditionally, listening, speaking, reading, and writing are considered as four important components of communication skills. Hearing is different from listening. Listening is a voluntary action. With silent observation, hearing can be converted into listening. The listening skills help in the improvement of communication skills.

India is one of the greatest democracies in letter and spirit. In India, the change in the rulers of the government takes place with a democratic process of elections. People can change their rulers with their mandate. The change takes place peacefully, and this process can be categorised as a silent revolution.  However, in some countries, the power shift changes with a lot of violence. This shows the democratic values and the collective power of the people in a silent manner. Hence, the world respects India for its democratic values.

In this era several countries follow the proxy war methods. In the present conditions, silence is more powerful than any other weapon. Any sort of provocation should be dealt with in silence, diplomatically and judiciously. There is a possibility that sometimes others may think our silence as our weakness and try to exploit us. Under such circumstances, silence should be used strategically to give a fitting reply to them. It must be remembered that silence is not foolishness, but it should be considered as an ultimate form of wisdom. It should be remembered that, depending on the situation the silence offers opportunities and challenges. Hence, we should be competent enough to make the best use of opportunities and capable of converting the challenges into opportunities to achieve success. Different media platforms can play a vital role in this noble task.
