Satyabodha Tirtha Math is a revered spiritual center in Savanur, a town in the Haveri district of Karnataka, India. This Math is renowned for housing the Brindavana (sacred tomb) of Satyabodha Tirtha, a distinguished saint and the 25th pontiff of the Uttaradi Math, who served from 1744 to 1783.
Shri Satyabodha Tirtha, a revered saint and scholar, was known for his ‘wisdom, miracles, and deep devotion. Chosen to lead “Sri Uttaradi Math, he served Lord Moola Rama and Digvijaya Rama” with unwavering dedication.
Born into a humble and pious family in Raichur, he was known as Ramacharya before taking Sanyasa. Despite his family’s poverty, his guru Sri Satyapriya Tirtha recognized his potential and took him under his care, teaching him the sacred scriptures.
One day, while offering prayers to the Shaligrama, young Ramacharya covered himself and the deity with a cloth. In this moment of deep devotion, Lord Shveta Varaha (the White Boar incarnation of Vishnu) appeared before him in a miniature form. This rare blessing proved his extraordinary devotion and divine connection.
Recognizing his greatness, Sri Satyapriya Tirtha ordained him as his successor, bestowing upon him the title Sri Satyabodha Tirtha. Some initially doubted his capabilities, but his wisdom and devotion soon silenced all critics. After his guru attained samadhi, Sri Satyabodha Tirtha built a magnificent Brindavana (sacred tomb) for him at Mana-Madurai, honoring his legacy.
After years of spreading Madhva philosophy and uplifting countless devotees, he entered Brindavana at Savanur, where his holy presence still blesses devotees. His influence was so profound that even today, the Uttaradi Math at Savanur is known as Shri Satyabodha Matha. Pilgrims from all walks of life visit his Brindavana, seeking his divine blessings and guidance.
His Mrithika Brindavana is located in Old Hubli, where his three-day Aradhana festival is celebrated annually with devotion and grandeur.
Shri Satyabodha Tirtha Aradhana will be held this year on March 14, 15, and 16 at the ancient Shri Math in Old Hubli Fort. The festival will include Abhisheka (sacred bath), Pooja, Homa, Havan, Rathotsava (chariot procession), Pallaki Utsava (palanquin procession), and Mahaprasada.
