Record Rs 4 crore in cash seized from flat of Odisha officer arrested in corruption case

Bhubaneshwar: Stacks of notes packed in trolley bags were allegedly recovered from the house of an Odisha Mines Department officer, who was arrested in a corruption case, officials said on Wednesday.

A total of Rs 4 crore in cash was seized from a flat in Bhubaneswar owned by Deputy Director of Mines Debabrata Mohanty, who was arrested by the Vigilance Department on Tuesday night, they said.

This is the highest-ever cash seizure made by the anti-corruption agency, they added.

Following the trap, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at three locations linked to Mohanty to investigate possible possession of disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered against him under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Police Station Monday.

The total amount seized has not been disclosed yet. Further details are awaited.
