Rasik Bihari Temple – Jodhpur

Rasik Bihari Temple is located in the heart of Jodhpur city, Rajasthan. Here in this temple, Lord Krishna, worshipped as Rasik Bihari

The Rasik Bihari Temple was constructed in the 19th century during the time of Maharaja Takht Singh of Marwar. It was built with royal patronage and support from devotees, particularly Naini Bai, a female devotee from the royal household. The temple, which is over 150 years old, is a significant place of worship for devotees of Krishna in Jodhpur. Locals often call it Naini Bai Ji Ka Mandir in her honour.

The Rasik Bihari Temple is built in traditional Rajput architecture, featuring white marble and finely carved pillars, domes, arches, and jharokhas (stone windows). The temple has a serene courtyard and beautifully painted ceilings with floral and mythological designs. The inner sanctum, or garbhagriha, is a peaceful and sacred space where idols are housed. The temple layout follows typical North Indian temple design with an elevated plinth, mandapa, and shikhara.

Long ago, in the royal city of Jodhpur, during the reign of Maharaja Takht Singh in the 19th century, a deeply spiritual woman named Naini Bai lived. She was a devout follower of Lord Krishna and belonged to the royal court. Unlike many others, her devotion was not based on rituals but on pure love and surrender to the Lord. She spent hours each day in prayer, singing bhajans (devotional songs) and meditating upon Krishna’s divine form.

One night, Naini Bai had a powerful dream vision. In her dream, she saw Lord Krishna in his Rasik Bihari form, adorned with peacock feathers, playing the flute, surrounded by gopis in the beautiful groves of Vrindavan. His face radiated bliss and compassion. In the dream, Krishna smiled at her and said,

“Build a home for me in your city, where devotees can come and feel the joy of divine love.”

When Naini Bai awoke, her heart was full of divine joy and purpose. She approached the royal court and shared her vision with Maharaja Takht Singh. Inspired by her unwavering devotion and the spiritual significance of the dream, the Maharaja granted permission and royal support to construct a temple dedicated to Rasik Bihari – the Lord of Divine Rasa (joy and love).

With dedication and devotion, Naini Bai oversaw the construction of the temple. Skilled artisans were invited to build the sanctum and surrounding halls in traditional Rajput architecture, using white marble and finely carved stone. A beautiful idol of Rasik Bihari Krishna, with Radha Rani by his side, was installed in the sanctum.

It is said that the day the idols were consecrated, a fragrant breeze swept through the city, and many devotees experienced a deep sense of peace and happiness. From then on, the temple became known as the Rasik Bihari Temple, and to this day, it is affectionately called Naini Bai Ji Ka Mandir, honoring the woman whose love for Krishna brought the divine into the heart of Jodhpur.

Many believe that those who visit this temple with a pure heart receive blessings of inner joy, devotion, and spiritual strength, just as Naini Bai did. During special days like Janmashtami and Radhashtami, devotees say that the energy of the temple becomes especially powerful, and the presence of Rasik Bihari can be deeply felt.
