New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here, hours after Indian armed forces’ precision strikes at terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Nine sites, including headquarters and training centres of Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), from where terror attacks against India were planned and directed, were targeted under ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the early Wednesday strikes.
Prime Minister Modi met President Murmu and briefed her on the operation, sources said.
Earlier, PM Modi chaired a Cabinet meeting where he called the operation a “moment of pride”. He informed the cabinet that the operation was executed exactly as planned, with “no mistakes whatsoever,” and the retaliatory attack was “completed”.
During the meeting, PM Modi also praised the armed forces for their “commendable job” and “immaculate execution”. “The whole country was looking up to us. We are proud of our Army,” the Prime Minister said.
India’s military strike targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir began at 1.05 am Wednesday, May 7, and lasted just 25 minutes. During this time, nine terror camps and training facilities were targeted with stand-off munitions like the HAMMER bomb and the SCALP missile, as well as others that can hover over an area to confirm its target before detonating.
Pakistan, in response, resorted to ‘arbitrary and indiscriminate firing’ and artillery shelling across the LoC, killing at least three civilians in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.
Operation Sindoor came days after 26 civilians were gunned down in a ghastly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
